Jon and Kate Plus 8

It's weird. No matter what random time and day of the week I actually decide to turn on the television on, this show seems to always be on! It just so happened that today was the day they had a marathon starting in the evening. I literally had to just turn off the television and walk away. Don't get the wrong idea though, its not because it was bad. It's because I could probably sit there for hours just watching this show. I'm still in my young, single, and free-spirited stage of life. Then I watch Jon and Kate Plus 8 and I wonder how they have the energy to raise 8 kids! The kids are cute. You can totally tell it's because they love their family so much and that is so admirable. Then I think of my brother who has one son and think that's plenty in itself. It's so funny to see how assertive and organized Jon and Kate are. The way they talk, yell, and argue with each other. Then you see them playing with their kids or disciplining them. It just makes me wonder if this is what the crazy big family of today's world would look like? I mean I look at my parents who have 6 other siblings a piece and wonder what kind of madness that was growing up.

Actually, the truth is that I do have a taste of that life when I was growing up. Even though my cousins and I are grown up and doing our own things. I still remember how I spent my summers at my nanay and tatay's house with my cousins. There was a lot of us staying over each night. May be watching Jon and Kate subconsciously reminded me of my experiences being with a lot of my cousins growing up. 5 girls and 5 boys (close in age to each other) at any given time during the summer or over the weekends. We used to go around in the old van together. Sleep all over the place. Play and fight over games all the time. Share like 2 seat belts in one van. Everyone sharing ONE bathroom! Hahaha. The good old days.

Even though television only shows a glimpse of reality, I think reality shows like this one and Little People go to show that it's not just your circumstances in life that determine who you are or what kind of life you will always have, but it's how you decide to live your life and the attitude that you have about life that make all the difference.
